Small bedrooms can be a bit difficult to decorate, but they can also be ultra-cozy and eclectic!

Many of us live in tiny city apartments, so there’s no chance of having a big bedroom. Luckily, there are tons of ways to make a small bedroom look incredibly cute and cohesive.

Today I’m sharing my favorite tips for decorating a small bedroom, plus 60+ inspiration photos below for every style and room shape.

Tips For Decorating A Small Bedroom:

There are a few specific things you can do to make your small bedroom look cozier, more cohesive, and larger without straying from your decor style.

Choose White Or Neutral Colors:

White makes any room look larger. You’ll notice that some of the cutest rooms in the photos below have white floors, walls, ceilings, and bedding.

Of course, this might not be feasible decaver vial (vermodje) depending on the flooring, wall color, and layout of your room. However, add in as much white as possible to make your room look larger! White reflects light and truly makes a huge difference in a room.

A small bedroom probably isn’t the time to opt for darker colors, unless you’re going for a moody, boho vibe, in which case you’ll have to keep in mind that dark colors really make the room shrink.

I personally love using white because it goes with just about any decor style, depending on how you incorporate the color. For example, you can use beadboard for a cottage look, shiplap for a pretty vibe, stark white with black artwork for a modern/city/European vibe, and patchy white with plants for a boho feel.

Accentuate The Windows/Source Of Light:

Even if you only have one small window, try to make it a focus. Hang curtains around the panes (outside of the window, not on it) to make the light source look bigger.

Make sure that the light from the window hits the areas decorated in white so that the light reflects, thus making the room look even larger.

You’ll see a bunch of examples below where the one window in the room is really highlighted! Light truly makes all the difference in a small room.

Add A Mirror:

A mirror is also a reflector of light. Not only does it make the room look a lot bigger, but it adds the water element which a small room desperately needs.

I really love the full-length mirrors in the example photos below (you can buy affordable full-length mirrors at Target, Walmart, and World Market) but even a small mirror or a few eclectic mirrors in a wall gallery will do the job. I’ve found some really pretty gold wall mirrors on Etsy.

Use Petite Or Minimalist Furniture:

Your furniture should always be size appropriate for the room it will live in. Of course, when you’re decorating a small bedroom, this means that you need super petite furniture.

This definitely isn’t the time to break out a massive headboard. Instead, opt for delicate frames, small open nightstands, and simple chairs.

It’s really easy to find minimalist petite furniture if you’re into the modern look, especially on Ikea and at Target. However, if you like a more ornate French/cottagecore vibe, you can also find some girly petite pieces that are semi-vintage.

Add Height With Plants Or Lighting:

When you’re decorating a small bedroom, it’s really important that you take advantage of the vertical space, not just the horizontal floor space. Placing items at different heights makes the room feel a lot larger and more interesting!

I love hanging plants (there are many plant hangers on Etsy for just about every style) but also like to string lights across the ceiling, use standing floor lamps, or add lighting over paintings.

Add Corner Accents:

You really want to take up every area in the bedroom, without making the room feel cluttered. When I’m decorating a small bedroom, I always try to utilize at least one corner.

There are so many different ways to decorate a corner. You can hang or stand a cornerized plant shelf, find a petite cornerized desk, place a delicate accent chair with a throw blanket and books, or even use the corner as a getting-ready space with a full-length mirror and clothes rack!

You’ll see lots of options for corner decor in the inspo photos below.
